Engagement Session in Central Park

Andrew and Ben’s spring engagement session in Central Park was a special session for many reasons! First, I firmly believe love is love. I am so proud to work with many LGBTQ+ couples and celebrating them being in love with their best friend. Second, springtime in New York City is magical. And third, Andrew is my cousin! I’ve loved getting to know Ben over the years. Can’t wait to celebrate these two next June! The one year countdown is on.

Their engagement story

Andrew and Ben moved to Queens a few years ago, so this location choice was a fun nod to their new home in the city. I was excited to travel to NYC for the weekend, both for a wedding and their engagement. Since it’s one of my favorite places, and my brother and sister-in-law live there, it was an easy decision to do their photographs in the Big Apple. And I’m so glad I got to capture their love during this spring engagement session in Central Park.

The best part of Andrew and Ben’s engagement session was to see them so full of smiles and laughter. Getting to capture their love against those iconic arches and stairs in Central Park made my architecture-loving heart happy. Then, seeing them work the model faces and look so confident on the famous Bow Bridge was a joy. We visited a few other iconic Central Park locations such as Bethesda Fountain and Cherry Hill, too.

Spring in NYC can be a bit of a mixed bag, but we got super lucky. A few blooms were even beginning to open up. It had been raining all day, but then the sun peeked out and the sky cleared up. The lighting was soft and dreamy. And let’s talk about the flowers! I mean, those cherry blossoms! The yellow forsythia! The daffodils! You can leave me with flowers all day and I will be happy. A lot of my couples have seen me stop to snap a few pictures of blooms during our sessions.

What’s next for this fun couple

They’ll be getting married during Pride month in 2023, at the historic Gem Theatre in Detroit. They met in the Detroit area in high school and Andrew is a huge theatre fan (and has been in many shows), so it’s the perfect spot for them to begin their marriage. Always love a good high school sweetheart moment! It will be fun to see them dance on that stage and for them to take the spotlight on their wedding day. I’m so excited to capture their love for the art form of the stage, and for each other.
